That Man of Mine!!!

Filed under: Peer Associations — thesavvyparentcoach @ 11:55 pm

Having a baby and a business is one thing, but factor in our better half and you have just kicked dynamics up several notches. And we are by no means the exception to this rule at our house. Last night I was really feeling abandoned and exposed by my husband.

Until recently I had been loosing my hair in droves, but am finally willing to trust the Lord and stop pretending to be

a self made woman. But that’s another post entirely. So there we were my husband, my daughter and I sitting with my beautician talking about all this, when my husband said to me, “You should read my book and stop stressing out!” I didn’t say anything mean to him or even what I was really thinking. I just sucked it up! On the way home I had a chance to really think about why his words hurt so much. So after praying about it I was able to talk with him in a way that made him think, without creating an even bigger issue than it already was. I told him this.

“When you want to really show your love for me you will cover me with your words. So when someone says that I am holding my stress in my hair, your response would be, “Then that’s exactly where I will hold HER! This will make me feel loved and cherished by you!” At first he tried to change to subject, not knowing where to go with that one. But I gently said that I was intentionally not attacking or accusing with my words, but that I had thought about what was making me feel so abandoned

as his wife. He responded by saying that in the future he would try his best to do that for me. Yep! That’s my baby’s Daddy alright!!!

I couldn’t believe how quickly he responded. I was not combative but compassionate, allowing him to really hear me, and then affirm what I was trying to say. And as a result of how he responded you better believe we played house in the middle of the night by candle light. So this Proverbs 31 stuff really works! And I encourage you to speak to the outcomes you most want to see in your home too, because despite what anti-family television personalities would like you to believe, you and I are just that powerful! In the meantime…

Believe well!

P.S. As a result of taking our coaching sessions to heart, as of last month my stylist is now married and moving to another state with her new husband. She couldn’t stop talking about how much her new family has welcomed her with open arms. But not to worry she has already found someone she trusts to take care of my hair. J

Just like the question I asked in response to President Obama’s weekly address what do you want to see more of in 2009? You can find even more professional parent coaching resources at sites like this one. http://www.CoachMyParents.com.
